Dream Journal

dream journal, meaning

As adventurers, surely you bloggers are looking for interesting anecdotes, insight and ideas to enrich you. I propose you begin a dream journal, it’s simple and rewarding. Here we may share dreams with each other, tips for improving dream recall or the meaning of dream symbols and dream language.

This is an opportunity to expand your experience of life into undreamed worlds. By going over the night you’ll rarely catch yourself placing the wrong foot out of bed. I want to emphasize that it is not easy for everyone to recall their dreams, some even say that they never dream. In reality we all dream several times every night. Our dreams are a fantasy theater, a world of artless expression, of colorless color and unstruck sound. The electro-chemical performance of our subconscious mind.

With a dream journal you'll begin to perceive the overall ambiance of your day. If you have nightmares and remember them, feeling anxious and on the edge won't be strange. But you can blow out the candle and resolve for a sunny day, giving you the upper hand. On the contrary, if you do not recall your dream, you’ll be confused about your feelings that day. Now, as a card player, wouldn’t you like to know all the cards on the table? Hopefully your dreams are peaceful—of cloud hopping—then you can tell it’s a good day for you, your mind is clear and paced, rather than broken up and incoherent. A perfect day to go on a date.

The journal doesn’t have to be the typical pen and paper recreation, a black and white story of your dreams. It can be a picture diary of drawings or cut outs, a collection diary of objects that remind you of certain dreams (triggers) or a collage or mural on your dorm wall that has special meaning to you alone. Please share any other creative ideas with us.

Everyone must start with an intent, and every night you must resolve that you’ll remember your dreams. In the morning anything you recall, any sound or sensation you must record—keep a pad and pen beside your bed. A tip is that as soon as you awaken you must stay absolutely still and go over anything you remember before recording it. Sometimes what we think we dreamt feels like nonsense. Start going over any train of thought that comes in the morning and usually you’ll realize what you were dreaming of. We might remember right when we wake up and forget a minute later. The responsibilities of conscious existence in the more real physical world are too overwhelming for us to remember and administer our dreams. If you are of the type that rarely remembers dreams, you need a little extra effort.

I’ve had a dream journal for eight months now and it’s the best thing to start the day with. When I was starting this project I dreamt I woke up, got out of bed and wrote down my dream in my journal, only to later find out that I had been dreaming and was still in bed. This happened a couple of times and without getting discouraged, I woke and wrote on my journal that I had already written on it, and part of the recorded story as I remembered. The intent and routine became embedded in my mind and absorbed me to that extent. After that it became natural to remember dreams. I’m sure you’ll have similar experiences.

Now, I believe dreaming goes on at all times, only that during sleep and with relaxation at night we are able to see the subconscious mind in the form of a dream. During the day the conscious mind is busy rationalizing and getting you on the move. Take a step back, close your eyes and try to see the underlying central stream where decisions are being made according to the patterns of your mind, of previous actions and experiences.

With this dream stuff occurring at all times it's no wonder we feel clamored during our lunch break and feel we're reacting without knowing. Like driving to a lunch date at the mall while day-dreaming, and magically appearing at your own door step. Try to see a picture of your subconscious, don’t waste your time on interpretation and meaning will come on its own sooner than you expect. Reason limits our vision, let it come as a flash, perhaps in a reveling dream, those that simply need no interpretation.

We dream of our future in life and of extraordinary events, sometimes fearful ones. Dream is transformation in expression, and that very capacity is revealed to us. There in lies a key for change and improvement. Dreams are the mysteries of the mind, a phenomenon we experience every time we go to sleep. I invite you to take this opportunity to acknowledge your rich inner life.
